Welsh

Helo, we are the Criw Cymraeg.

Our main focus is to get the Bronze Award from the Siarter Iaith Cymraeg. We also work on promoting the Welsh ethos across the school, encouraging the pupils and staff to speak as much Welsh as they can and to enjoy learning Welsh.

Curriculum Cymraeg Aims:

  • To get our Bronze award from the Siarter Iaith Cymraeg
  • To improve the Welsh across the school
  • To promote Welsh throughout the school
  • To represent our school in Welsh

Our Role:

* To hold a Criw Cymraeg Assembly every Monday

* To decide on and introduce the Patrwm Yr Wythnos

* To introduce and promote competitions across the school

* To introduce and play games with children in the yard

* To reward children who speak Welsh

* To update the website and to write in the School Newsletter letting parents know about our progress as a Criw.

Why learning Welsh is good!

As a Criw we discussed why learning Welsh is good. We have visitors, like Ameer, into school who have talked with us about

how speaking Welsh helped him.

These are the reasons why we think learning Welsh is good for us:

* we can communicate with lots of different people

* it might help us get a job as us will know a different language and have a different skill that will give us an advantage over someone else

* we live in Wales, so if we go to different places eg Llangrannog where people speak more Welsh it will help us

* it will help the government reach its goal of 1 million Welsh speakers by 2050

* research has shown that people who speak a second do better in tests

*  it's part of who we are we don't want the language to die
