The advent of the school holidays may temporarily release parents from daily considerations like “Have they done all their homework?” and “Where did I last see that backpack?” … but it often replaces those concerns with substitute stresses such as “Is he honestly going to play on that video game all day – again?” and “Who’s she been chatting to online all afternoon?”
Many young people’s knee-jerk solution for entertaining themselves this summer will be to reach for an internet-enabled device. There’s nothing intrinsically wrong with that – but it does put pressure on parents in terms of online safeguarding.
