Weeks beginning 23.2.26 and 2.3.26
AM Nursery Letters and Sounds-FFT
The children have been introduced to the letters c, k, e, u and have been practising saying the sounds they make.
We use the following rhymes to help the children remember the sounds:
c-The curly caterpillar crawls.
k-The kangaroo keeps kicking.
e-Every elephant enters.
u-The upside down umbrella is unusual.
Please can you help your child identify and say c, k, e, u (letter name and sound) when you are sharing books, or when you are out and about.
NB. We have talked about c and k having different letter names, but making the same sound.
Please open the attachment below to view a powerpoint containing individual sound/letter cards. Please use the relevant ones for each week with your child.
Please open the attachment below with your child to view and listen to the alphabet chant. When the attachment is open, scroll down and click on the link.
Welsh Fortnight
The children have had a busy 2 weeks experiencing Welsh traditions, finding out the symbols of Wales and developing their Welsh language. In daily provision they have made their own Welsh castles in our construction areas and prepared their very own Cawl with vegetables in the water area. The children have enjoyed developing their Welsh vocabulary associated with food using the story, Beth sy'n yn y Fasged as a stimulus. Many children have also enjoyed role-playing the story in our Cwtch Cymraeg through song. During our PE sessions the children have had a go at traditional Welsh dancing to Mi Welais Jac Y Dor and they have enjoyed learning a traditional Welsh song, Heno Heno, which they performed in front of the school during the Eisteddfod. Da iawn pawb!
Celebrating World Book Day-Thursday 5th March
Week beginning 9.2.26
As part of our topic, Helping Hands, the children were very excited on Monday to have a visit from a team of firefighters who came in their fire engine. They found out about their uniform, what to do if there is a fire and then loved exploring the fire engine. They even took turns to squirt water from the fire hoze. A great big thank you to Sketty Fire Station for taking the time to deliver such an authentic experience for the children.
Week beginning 2.2.26
This week the children have been Science investigators as part of our topic, Helping Hands. They have been investigating how germs spread. We used a mixture of glitter and baby oil for germs and found out how quickly it spread, as we passed an item around the class. We then talked about how we can stop germs from entering our bodies through washing hands before we eat. The children learnt a song to help them remember how to wash their hands effectively:
(To the tune of Row, row, row your boat.)
Wash, wash, wash your hands,
Keep them nice and clean,
Wash the bottoms and wash the tops,
And fingers in between.
The children have also been enjoying the loose parts sweet shop this week, whilst practising their counting and weighing skills.
Week beginning 19.1.26
Our afternoon Nursery class is growing. The children are enjoying getting to know the routine and developing relationships with their peers. "Play, laugh, learn" is our motto.
Friday 16th January-Topic Immersion Day
To launch our topic, Helping Hands, the children in AM Nursery enjoyed coming to Nursery dressed as someone who helps in the community. During the session the children enjoyed identifying each other's costumes whilst taking part in a photo booth, learning a song about people who help us and playing a circle game called, Guess the Job.
