  Dear Parents and Carers,

   

  As we come to the end of a very busy February, we’d like to share and celebrate some of the wonderful successes across the school this month.

   

  Our children took part in a range of activities during Internet Safety Day, helping them learn how to stay safe online. Their engagement, questions, and thoughtful discussions were truly impressive. Children have also explored the importance of wellbeing, expressing their feelings through creative tasks and class discussions. We are so proud of their maturity and kindness.

   

  The excitement is building as we get ready for St David’s Day, Dydd Gwyl Dewi and our Eisteddfod! The children have been busy practising, creating artwork, and learning about Welsh culture and traditions. We can't wait until the Eisteddfod Day to find out the results of the competitions. Good luck everyone!

   

  A huge well done to our rugby and football teams, who played with determination, teamwork, and fantastic sportsmanship in their recent matches. They represented the school brilliantly! I would also like to extend a warm thank you to all parents and carers who visited the school to see the children’s work. Your support means so much to us and to the children. And finally, a big thank you to all our dedicated staff and governors for their hard work this month, and to our fabulous children for their effort, enthusiasm and positive attitudes.

• EISTEDDFOD COMPETITIONS - YSGOL SGETI

  Eisteddfod competitions Ysgol Sgeti 2026

   

  Theme – Breuddwydion (Dreams)

   

  Once again this year, our Ysgol Sgeti competitions will fall in line with the Urdd Eisteddfod which is being held at Ynys Môn.  By doing this, we will be able to enter many of the Urdd Eisteddfod competitions with the same work the children produce for their school entry.  

   

  The table below shows the year group, category and the strict rules and guidelines that must be followed.  A selection (first, second and third) of school entries will be put forward to the Urdd Eistedddfod competitions.  Pupils may also enter the additional competitions at the bottom of the table, but they should complete their Year group challenge first.

   

  This year’s Eisteddfod theme is “Dreams / Breuddwydion.” We are inviting all pupils to think about what dreams mean to them. It could be a dream they have while they sleep, a dream for their future, a dream for their family or school, or even a dream for a kinder, more peaceful world. Pupils of all ages can explore this theme.  We encourage families to talk with their children about the dreams that matter most to them, helping to inspire their creative work for the Eisteddfod.
   

  Any words and writing included on a piece of work MUST be in Welsh or they are unable to be entered at the Urdd level.

   

  All pieces of work should be clearly labelled on the back with the child’s name, age, Year group and date of birth.

   

  Blwyddyn	Category	Entry details and rules
  Blwyddyn 6	PhotoGrŵphy: A series of colour photos.	A series of 4 colour photographs. Each photo to measure approximately A5 (e.g 7"x5") when printed.  Photos should be emailed to your class teacher.    Winning entries will be printed in school, and entered to the National Eisteddfod competition.
  Blwyddyn 5	Uwchgylchu/Upcycling	Upcycle any object using recycled materials that are fit for purpose. Photograph(s) of the original object or raw materials must be included as evidence of the action taken.   Finished work to measure no more than 750mm x 750mm x 750mm
  Blwyddyn 4	Creau tecstilau/Creating textiles		Create fabric or create an item out of fabric Create 2D or 3D work that uses materials and techniques such as: Felting, Hand or machine knitting, Hand or machine sewing, Crocheting or weaving, to measure no more than 750mm x 750mm x 750mm.
  Blwyddyn 3	3D Creadigol/Creative		Present 3D work in any medium or combination of media. Work in this category would be visual from all directions (except the bottom if standing on the ground) and maintain itself, measuring no more than 750mm x 750mm x 750mm and weighing less than 12kg.
  Blwyddyn 2	Pypedau/Puppets		Up to 3 puppets of any kind such as: finger, hand or string. A puppet on a string should be presented in a decorative bespoke frame for hanging/display only. No decorations or accessories to the frame will be judged as part of the work. The dimension of the frame to hold the puppets should not exceed 750mm x 750mm x 750m
  Blwyddyn 1	Print		Print on any material using one or a combination of media and techniques including: Lining, Wood, Plastic, Paper, Fabric or Metal to measure no more than 760mm x 560mm
  Derbyn and Meithryn	2d Creadigol/Creative		Present any 2D work pasted on a flat background (e.g. card, table, tile, glass, plastic or metal), to create a collage (collage) or mosaic. Work in this category would be suitable for hanging on a wall, measuring no more than 760mm x 560mm
  Additional competitions for all year groups to enter. Children should complete their Year group task also.
  PhotoGrŵphy: A series of colour photos. A series of 4 colour photographs. Each photo to measure approximately A5 (e.g 7"x5"). All items should be mounted on black card. All photographs should be presented on standard photograph paper. Photocopy paper is not permitted.
  CrysT/T shirt Design a T-Shirt (front on A4 and back on A4, present on A3) to convey any aspect or aspects of the theme Dreams/Breuddwydion.
  Gemwaith/Jewellery Original jewellery in any medium or combination of media.
  2D drawing/llun Create a 2D picture suitable to hang on a wall, using one or combination of these media: Pencil, Ink, Creon, Pastel or Paint to measure no more than 760mm x 560mm

• Children’s Mental Health Week

  Children’s Mental Health Week
  Children’s Mental Health Week returns this February (9 – 15 ) with the theme ‘This is my place’. Feeling we belong, in our workplaces, friendships, communities, schools or clubs, plays a vital role in our mental health and wellbeing. To mark the week tidyMinds, the regional mental health and wellbeing website created for children and young people living in the region, is working with local services and community organisations to deliver a programme of free wellbeing events and activities for children, young people, parents and carers across Swansea, Neath and Port Talbot. These activities aim to create safe, welcoming spaces where children, young people and their parents and carers can connect, take part in positive experiences, and find out about a range of mental health and wellbeing support services and resources available locally to support children and young people with their
  wellbeing.
  
  In Swansea, tidyMinds is hosting two free events at The Collaboration Station, supported by Swansea Council’s Partnership and Involvement Team who have kindly provided space for both events:

  
  Drop-in Coffee Morning – Wednesday, February 11th from 10:00 am–12:00 pm
  Delivered in partnership with Swansea Parent Carer Forum, this relaxed session is for parents and carers of children and young people with additional needs and disabilities (children welcome).
  A chance to grab a cuppa, a light bite, meet other parents and carers and ask advice from relevant professionals in a friendly and welcoming space.

  
  Wellbeing Fun Day for Children, Young People & Families – Saturday, February 14 from 10:00 am–2:30 pm
  A fun-filled day including wellbeing activities (bath bomb making), circus skills, creative sessions (zine workshop, portraits and collage), face painting, games and more. Cwtch Mawr will also be present with freebies for families. Free refreshments and a free lunch will be available for the first 100 people.
