June Newsletter
Fri 28 Jun 2024Dear Parents/Carers,
Welcome everyone to our June newsletter. It certainly has been a very busy month! Please enjoy reading through the class pages which show how rich and diverse our curriculum is and share the wonderful achievements of the children.
A new section has been added where you can meet the governors of the school and find out a little bit about who they are and what they do.
We only have three weeks left of this academic year and I'm sure you'll agree it has been a very eventful one! Thank you for your continued support. Enjoy!
Diolch pawb!

Gardening Photography Competition Update
Sun 23 Jun 2024Photography Competition
Thank you to everyone who has sent gardening photographs in over the last few weeks. The competition has now closed and the Eco Committee will be judging the entries over the next couple of weeks. The winners will be notified before the end of term. It has been a delight receiving all the wonderful photographs and I am so glad it is the committee and not myself that has the difficult job of choosing a winner!

Refugee week
Wed 19 Jun 2024As part of Refugee Week work, the School of Sanctuary committee was invited down to Sketty Library yesterday to take part in an animation project, linked to the topic of 'Our Home'.
The children worked with Dean Kelly who is Cultural Community Co-ordinator for the local authority and the incredibly talented filmmaker Jamie Panton, to create animations.
The children were all really engaged throughout and worked really hard to create a short animation in pairs linked to the theme.

School of Sanctuary Award
Fri 14 Jun 2024This year we applied for School of Sanctuary status. This means that the school is a place of refuge and sanctuary for people who have joined the community, especially Refugee and Asylum seeking families.
We are very pleased to announce that the school was successful in its application and we collected our award on Monday at Swansea Arena.
The School of Sanctuary committee attended the event and performed their rap, the music was written by Sami, and the words were written by the whole committee. The Year 5's performed one of their Primary Partners songs - This is Me! It was a great morning and it was a great privilege to have the opportunity to go and the children performed wonderfully on such a big stage.
Unfortunately we were not able to take any photos or record the songs at the event, but we have managed to record the rap back in school.

Next week, all the children will be celebrating Refugee Week, and have assemblies and activities planned for each class. We also have a whole host of activities planned for the Autumn term, including organising fund raising events, to help support the local community. Watch this space!!
School of Sanctuary Pledge
“We support the ‘City of Sanctuary’ vision that the UK will be a welcoming place of safety for all and proud to offer sanctuary to people fleeing violence and persecution.
We endorse the City of Sanctuary Charter, and agree to act in accordance with City of Sanctuary values and apply the network principles within our work (as far as our specific context enables us to).
We recognise the contribution of people seeking sanctuary. Sanctuary seekers are welcomed, included and supported within our school.

Autistic Spectrum disorder support
Mon 10 Jun 2024The Local Authority have produced a guide, on their website. This guide aims to support parents and carers of children and young people who you think may be autistic or who are awaiting an assessment, or who have a diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Disorder.
Please click below
https://swansea.gov.uk/autismsupport?lang=en
The myth busting project aims to raise awareness for parents and carers of children and young people who are either awaiting and assessment along the Neurodevelopmental Pathway or who already have a diagnosis of Autism.
The campaign consists of a short web-based animation which explains what support can be given at home, at school and from the community regardless of whether formal diagnoses have been received. It aims to support a needs-led approach to supporting neurodiversity in line with National thinking.
Clips from the animation are also being displayed electronically in the central bus station and car parks. Swansea Council social media channels will also raise awareness.
The project is a joint venture between Swansea ALN Inclusion Team and Neath Port Talbot Inclusion Team. It has been made possible through West Glamorgan Regional Partnership Board Funding, as part of Neurodevelopmental Transformation Fund.
A digital and printed resource book for schools has also been developed and made available to support schools and parents
Phase two will include workshops for parents and carers, hosted in Swansea School to raise awareness. Details to follow.
