  • The Big Battery hunt is back!

Thu 05 Sep 2024 Kirsty Palmer

    Sketty School Battery Collection.

    We want your used batteries!

Did you know each year in the UK we throw away around 600 million batteries? Laid end to end these batteries would reach from the UK to Australia and back again.

Thousands of tonnes of CO2 emissions can be avoided if we increase battery recycling.

Last year The Eco Committee launched a monthly competition to collect batteries and are keen to continue this year.

We collected over 13,000 batteries that may otherwise have ended up in landfill. We registered with Duracell’s Big Battery Hunt, a nationwide recycling challenge that inspires pupils to power change across their schools and wider communities.

“Showing children that small environmental actions, when taken collectively, can make a big difference is illustrated brilliantly by Duracell’s Big Battery Hunt.”Allison Ogden-Newton OBE, Chief Executive of environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy

Please send in any used batteries with your child. Each classroom has a recycling box. At the end of each month, the Eco team will collect and count the batteries. The class that collects the most will receive a certificate and keep our ‘Eco Dewi Dragon’ with them for the month.

Please support a great scheme that can help protect our environment.
